Eliezer Sheffer

Between 1972-2002, Eliezer Sheffer fulfilled a number of senior executive
positions in the executives of the World Zionist Organization and the
Jewish Agency for Israel.
Chairman of the Leadership Development Unit – Dor Hemshech, Head
of the Department of Torah Education in the Diaspora and as Head of
the Center for Spiritual Services in the Diaspora, he headed the three
International Assemblies for Orthodox Leadership.
Some of Mr. Sheffer's current public positions include –
- Chairman of the Executive Board of Ariel Institutions – Torah,
Judaism and society in Israel
- Chairman of the Amuta - "Yavneh Olami" – the world organization
for students and yeshiva students.
- President of the "Bnei Zion" lodge in Jerusalem, belonging
to Bnei Brit in Israel.
- Member of the Vaad of the World Organization of Orthodox Communities
and Synagogues in Israel and the Diaspora.
- Member of the executive council of the World Jewish Congress
Eliezer Sheffer was born in Tiberias to a family who had emigrated
from Russia to Israel in the Hassidim wave of Aliya – disciples of
the Baal Shem Tov in 1778. They rejuvenated the Jewish communities
in Tiberias and Meron.
He studied in the Hevron Yeshiva in Jerusalem and Kerem BeYavne Yeshiva.
He served in the Israeli Defense Force as a paratrooper, studied psychology
and education at Bar Ilan University and worked as an educator and
an educational-psychology counselor.
Eliezer Sheffer published several articles in newspapers and in books.
His book "Stories of Time and Place" was published five years
ago and in the coming year he will publish another book about Jerusalem.
Eliezer Sheffer is married to Esther, father of three children, several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, lives with his family in Jerusalem.
