TAFNIT, North America
World Bnei Akiva & World Mizrachi
Tafnit (Hebrew for “turning point”) is just that
kind of program. It combines a variety of challenging and engaging
experiences—learning, volunteering, touring---all directed to one
educational goal: to help young maturing Jews develop and deepen
their religious identity and commitment, and instill in them a sense
of personal responsibility for the future of Israel and the Jewish
people. Over the course of the year, the participants experience
another culture; they test their independent abilities and engage
in meaningful activities.
The program not only familiarizes the participants with real
life in Israel, but also prepares them to return to their
communities to take up leadership roles in Jewish life and in the
community at large. Tafnit is designed for serious
minded young men and women who do not want to stay in one place
of learning for a whole year, yet want to spend a significant amount
of time engaged in serious study: to grow in Torah knowledge, enhance
their leadership skills, and deepen their understanding of Israel
and its people during their year in Israel.
